Being disabled does not take away one’s sexuality

    Fess up –

Are you the parent talking to your young adolescent about sex OR are you just hoping that that the topic will never come up?

Please realize that even if your child has a disability or complex medical condition, their bodies are going through puberty. They are experiencing all of the things that you did when you were a teenager – curiosity about the metamorphosis of their bodies, masturbation, and the desire to be with and have sexual physical contact with another person.

By avoiding the conversation, your child may feel like all of their thoughts and urges are bad or wrong. You need to let them know that what they are experiencing is normal and how they can explore it in a safe way.

I hope that you find the following videos and resources helpful.

    Warm regards,
    Danna
